My views on politics, life, death, the army, and other things too miscellaneous to mention here. This is a personal blog. This blog is 100% factual.

"There are some myths and untruths surrounding the role God plays in our daily lives. To say that religion and politics do not mix, is certainly a myth, unless you ask a liberal. Anything that affects a Christian (and voting is one of them) — enters into the religious realm. Trying to separate the two is like trying to separate oil from a glass of water, it's impossible to do. "

Back for One More...

This week has been a good week for me -both NE and Philly have won one more on an incredible streak (9 and 8 wins in a row, respectively), and Albert Gore finally came around to endorse Howard Dean for President today.

I love crap like this, because it causes pundits of all stripes to go nuts and write reaction pieces within hours of hearing the news. My favorite so far: William Saletan apperently drank a few quarts of vodka this morning and wrote this screed in which he seems to pull out of the firmament every pundit claiming the Primary race is over and lumped them all together into one person: Albert Gore. Exceptional.

According to a few of the pundies, Al Gore is now Richard Nixon, hedging a bet for 2008, when liberals will of course love him. Dean is now Barry Goldwater, or still McGovern.

And Jimmy Carter was foolish to call Ronald Reagan an extremist in 1980 (and, he should have brought those hostages home).

I gleaned all this today from the top story: Al Gore endorsing Howard Dean for President.

Anyway, here's my take:

1.) I think the Dean backlash is starting to happen for real. And the reason for this: Al Gore hurt Lieberman's feelings by not contacting him over the phone first.

2.) I think Dean will win the nomination anyway, despite the effort.

3.) I think the NH debate tonight was despicable (nobody raised their hand when asked if Dean could beat Bush -I know the question shouldn't have even been asked, but still...-and Kerry, who I actually liked at one point, actually brought up the phone call thing in a 'discussion' with Lieberman during the debate).

If I could come up with an appropriate past politician that would most resemble Howard Dean, I'd pick: Richard M. Nixon. Reason: I think he's a hard guy to like in the long term. But he's got two things going for him that Nixon didn't: he's makes a good first impression, and he has a great campaign strategy working for him that should make every politician take notes.

All that, and Nixon still won two terms. Hmmm...

Well, back to my hybernation. See ya next month.

It's Time for a Break.

Kinda silly, since I haven't posted in about two weeks or so, but I've decided to announce that I'll be taking the rest of the month of December off from blogging, mostly to get away from the internet and focus more on some of my other, non blog related, writing.

While I'm gone, though, I'll still be thinking and making changes to it. These changes will probably include:

1.) Working on changing the look of the site.

2.) Finding a better focus for the blog, rather than just self-consciously writing whatever comes to mind.

If you're new to the site, you can take a look in the archives to get a better impression. If you're old, I invite you to come back in January to see what's changed.

Thanks,

Bill Duckwing
